    Description

This  fantastic weekly bulletin  was issu
    ed
by the White Baking Co. in the Unit
    ed
States as an advertising  premium for their bread and other bak
    ed
    goods in 1938 (as print
    ed
on the front cover).   The back of the bulletin features a card from their Champion Dog  Series.    I have not been able to find this series list
    ed
in any reference guide including Burdick’s American Card Catalogue.  This series was obviously issu
    ed
in  similar manner to the D2 American Airplanes  or the D6 American Indian Chiefs Series and other similar series issu
    ed
by such companies as Krugs and others.   The cards were issu
    ed
in a weekly pamphlet or bulletin form, usually print
    ed
on the back page.  These series were also usually  issu
    ed
in conjunction with an album that the child could keep the cards in once they had been cut out from the pamphlet.  In this case the inner pages feature advertising for specials at the bakery and also lists a recipe as well.  The obvious attraction to non-sports card collectors is the back page which features a card from their Champion Dogs series.  The there is a handsome black and white image of the specific bre
    ed
of dog, as well as a brief description of the bre
    ed
.  Sadly it does not mention how many dogs are featur
    ed
the set.   In this case the dog featur
    ed
    is the
    CHOW CHOW  .
The pamphlet measures 6 ½  inches by 3 ½ inches approximately.  The pamphlet does have some corner creasing, I think it displays nicely   I have scann
    ed
the front cover and the back page, and the two interior pages open .
Because I believe that this series was intend to be cut out and collect
    ed
, and that it is print
    ed
on thin paper stock,  I imagine that not many surviv
    ed
fully intact and in nice collectable condition.
    This is a scarce series.
I  will be trying to list several  EARLY TRADE & TYPE CARDS over the next few days
(spread across different categories), including one or two that are unrecorded in any guide, that were put given away with Tobacco, Caramel, Candy, Gum, Chocolate, Bread Coffee Tea Cereal and other products, covering such diverse subjects as Native American Indians , Baseball , Football, Boy Scouts, Ice Hockey, Golf, Presidents of the United States, NCAA and IVY League Colleges and Universities and Circus themes.  To view the other cards I have up on ebay please click  on the “View Sellers other Items” Icon located on this page. It will take you directly to them.
